The Wurzels forced to deny claim they will perform at Cornwall Christmas party costing £20 a ticket - Cornwall Live

Representatives for the iconic band The Wurzels have been forced to deny a bar’s claim that they are to play at a Christmas party event which was advertised them as performing in Cornwall this December. The confirmation comes after tickets went on sale for £20 a pop.

The Social Bar and Eatery, in Liskeard, said the band would be kicking off the Christmas season with a show. Tickets were available to purchase from early September ahead of the event which was supposed to be held on Saturday, December 10.

The band behind the number one hit ‘Combine Harvester’ were said to be entertaining alongside a serving of nibbles, and local acoustic performer, Tom Baker, was also due to take to the stage at the festive event. Representatives for the Somerset band have, however, now confirmed this is not the case.

A spokesperson for the band said: “It has come to the band’s attention that The Social in Liskeard are advertising a Christmas Show on December 10th with the Wurzels. The Social venue has no contractual agreement with the band to perform and therefore there will be no appearance of the Wurzels at this event. If you have bought tickets expecting to see The Wurzels you should contact the venue direct for a refund.”

Announcing the news back in September, The Social said: “But we wanted to show this event specifically! 10th December… this is our Social Christmas party! Grab your ticket and get treated to canapés, Prosecco and THE WURZULS!!” After their incredible first show with us almost a year ago, we had to bring them back!!!!”

While The Wurzels were born and bred in Somerset, they regularly tour Devon and Cornwall, gracing community festivals and various venues with their number one hit Combine Harvester and other hits such as I am a Cider Drinker. They play the Little Orchard Cider and Music Festival at Healey’s Cyder Farm between Truro and Newquay every September. The Social has confirmed through its social media channels that it will be booking another band for this date but has yet to say anymore on the topic.

Responding to a customer, it said: “Unfortunately the show is no longer going to happen. We will be booking another band for this date.”

It is understood that the event will still go on without the band. We have contacted The Social Bar and Eatery for comment.
