Governor Youngkin Approves REALTOR® Health Insurance Bill
On Monday, April 11, 2022, Governor Glenn Youngkin signed the Virginia REALTORS® health insurance legislation into law. This victory follows more than three years of intense efforts from the Virginia REALTORS® Government Relations team.
“The passage of this health insurance bill is outstanding news for our association. The bill—which passed both the House and Senate with near-unanimous support—opens new doors of opportunity for the very first time,” says Virginia REALTORS® 2022 President Denise Ramey. “After years of hard work, our team can go to work to pursue health insurance options for our membership.”
The new law, which will go into effect on July 1, 2022, is the first step in a process of negotiating plans with potential insurance providers. “While this victory opens new opportunities for the REALTORS® of Virginia, more work lies ahead in order to implement a viable plan for our members,” says Virginia REALTORS® CEO Terrie Suit.
“This is undoubtedly a huge milestone for our association,” says Virginia REALTORS® Senior Vice President of Government Relations Martin Johnson. “However, while many may feel as though this is the end of the process, after so many years of work, it is important to remember that this is, in fact, the completion of phase one. Now, our work pivots toward turning this law into a reality for Virginia’s REALTORS®, and we are eager to get started.”
To keep our members informed along the way, Virginia REALTORS® has created a REALTOR® Health Insurance Resource Page. This page will contain FAQs, clarifications, updates, and more as we progress in our efforts. The resource page will be updated as soon as new information comes available, so be sure to check back regularly.
